Photo of the day: Backcountry of Glacier National Park

Submitted by Todd Jewell / UGC

Belly River Trail, Glacier National Park, Mont.

Todd Jewell's photo from Glacier National Park is proof that it pays to travel beyond the beaten path.

Jewell got this shot, taken along the Belly River Trail between Cosley Lake and the Canadian border, after backpacking for four days in August 2010. During that time Jewell covered about 35 miles -- and took about 1,500 pictures.

"This was taken on our last day on the hike out," Jewell told TODAY.com. "I took a ton of photos due to the tremendous beauty and opportunities for shots like this." Learn more about visiting Montana's Glacier National Park here.

Great photo. Don't even think about going to Glacier without a camera. We took hundreds of photographs and the hard part is deciding which ones to use in our blog. www.goneguru.com

one of my favorite places to go ! It is a photo op at every turn. One of my favorite is on ''Going to the Sun Drive'' to catch a goat and its baby hanging onto a rock over head by a waterfall that ran across the road. The beauty and air is rare up there and once you go, it hangs in your mind forever even without the photo.

Nice shot! Glacier is very beautiful with many photo ops, but nice angle on this one. You have a great eye.

Spectacular photo! I've never backpacked in Glacier but have done plenty of day hikes. I don't think it's possible to take a bad picture in Glacier. Although still have not captured a really good bear picture - which may be a good thing!
